The Aaper Forest is a 200-hectare part of the Düsseldorf city forest and adjoins the Rath district of Düsseldorf to the east. The gravelly-sandy soils of the Aaper Forest come from ancient deposits of the Rhine. The Aaper Forest merges almost seamlessly into the Grafenberg Forest in the south, which is also a popular destination because of the wildlife park. Woodpeckers and bats also feel completely comfortable. Some of the beeches in the Aaper Forest are around 250 years old and tower 40m high.
